Vintage Costume Jewellery
Costume jewellery was originally designed to have the look and style of fine jewellery, but without the big ticket price. The diamonds, rubies and emeralds of fine jewellery were replaced with coloured glass, known as paste and base metals, such as iron, nickel, tin and rhodium, were plated to give the effect of silver and gold. Latterly plastics were also used in the construction of pieces.
Costume jewellery for years was viewed as fine jewellery's poorer cousin, however in recent years, the growing popularity of the vintage movement has lead to a reappraisal of costume jewellery, and with it, rising values, as people appreciate the design skill and style used in the manufacture of the pieces. Costume jewellery is now a highly desirable collecting field in its own right, as people look for pieces by some of the well known makers such as Lea Stein.
Our online store and the collect in store sections have just a small selection of some of the pieces that we currently have for sale. If you are looking for something in particular, please contact us directly.
